Reston National Golf Course

Restoring a Reston Gem

Reston National Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 71, public course designed by Edmund (Ed) Ault and opened in 1970. Located immediately south of MD-267 and less than one mile from the Reston Town Center, this 168 acre course offers convenient accessibility to well-trafficked areas in the community. Reston offers both membership and daily-fee structures and averages approximately 40,000 rounds annually, making it one of the busiest courses in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The War Horse team, in collaboration with Weller Development, broke ground on improvements and upgrades to the course following a purchase in 2019. Our team saw an opportunity for reinvestment into a thriving Northern Virginia gem. An economically flourishing community in close proximity to Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, the Northern Virginia submarket offers innumerable opportunities for development to benefit the community, and the beloved golf course was pining with opportunity for cosmetic upgrades and growth potential.

Since the purchase in 2019, completed upgrades include the expansion of the driving range, new hitting surfaces and the environmental restoration of the course. These measures include reestablishing 25-acres of native plant meadows and a pollinator garden, the introduction of native honey bees and the creation of the blue bird trail. Ongoing upgrades include a clubhouse and a deck renovation in excess of $775,000. Additional developments include a brand-new food and beverage program in collaboration with Fern Holler, the team behind Baltimore’s iconic Sandlot bar and Artifact Coffee house. To launch late 2021 will be the restaurant on course, Pin High.
