Bringing WeWork Innovation to the University of Maryland

WeWork, which launched its first location in 2011, has a mission to provide creative co-working spaces for entrepreneurs, small business owners and freelancers alike. They saw a need to shift the way we work as our society has shifted the way we approach our careers. Since their initial launch, they have opened 200 locations in 64 cities. Their University of Maryland location opened in February 2019, one of the first locations in the state of Maryland and the very first WeWork on a college campus. The deal had officially closed in 2018.

In partnership with Chesapeake Real Estate, the War Horse Cities team opened the University of Maryland College Park WeWork, a two-story, 17,000 total square-foot property. Originally, the building acted as a maintenance building owned by the university. Designed to accommodate approximately 325 occupants at a time in private offices, hot desks and small-team suites, the WeWork location is open to both members of the university community and to the general public.

The College Park WeWork location offers students, entrepreneurs and freelancers a place to work, connect and thrive in close proximity to nearby amenities such as the university, restaurants, bars and shops. The WeWork model has seen success in cities across the country, as it challenges traditional opportunities for independent thinkers to connect with each other and redefines what “coworking” can mean. Both private offices and open, collaborative spaces are available at this convenient location.
